There is no separate tree species called "Kurogaki" (Black Persimmon). Among Diospyros kaki (Japanese persimmon), wood that develops black streaks or patterns in the heartwood is referred to as Kurogaki. It is highly prized but extremely rare—considered one of the most valuable decorative timbers.
