Enju (Japanese Pagoda Tree)
The original Sophora japonica is rarely distributed. Currently, most timber traded under the name “Enju” is actually False Japanese Pagoda Tree (Maackia amurensis var. buergeri).
It is highly valued for its decorative appeal due to the striking contrast between the heartwood and the narrow band of sapwood.
